History of the Panton Chair

The Panton Chair is a classic in the history of furniture design. Conceived by Verner Panton in 1959, the chair was developed for serial production in collaboration with Vitra (1967). It was the first all-plastic chair made in one piece with a cantilever design.

  • Avoid exposing the chair to the sun for long periods as the color may change. Use a soft, damp, non-abrasive cloth for cleaning fiberglass. Gentle drying is recommended. For stain removal, use a mild commercially available cleaner. Never use abrasive cleaning agents such as powders or pastes, or aggressive all-purpose cleaners like alcohol, as these may damage the surface.

Verner Panton’s vision: to create design using unconventional techniques. When he created the Panton chair, the world’s first single-form, injection-moulded chair, it was considered a revolutionary technique back in the 1960s. Throughout his life Panton created innovative designs that combined materials in unconventional ways and was greatly influenced by the impact of color on his work .
