Camp Withycombe

Let’s take a journey back in time and uncover more about the historical gem that is Camp Withycombe, where today’s North Clackamas Chamber Vendor Showcase unfolded! We love our military!

A Glimpse into the Past:

Camp Withycombe’s roots trace back to 1941, when it was established as a training site during the early days of World War II. Named in honor of Brigadier General Henry Withycombe, who served in the Oregon National Guard, the camp quickly became a crucial hub for military preparation. Before its military transformation, the land was used for fruit orchards. The transition from orchards to a military base marked a pivotal moment, reflecting the nation’s shift towards wartime readiness during a critical era in history.

World War II and Beyond

During World War II, Camp Withycombe played a vital role in training and mobilizing troops for the Pacific Theater. It continued to evolve in the post-war years, adapting to the changing needs of the military and the community. Beyond its military significance, Camp Withycombe has long been intertwined with the local community. Over the years, it has hosted events ranging from military ceremonies to public gatherings, fostering a sense of unity and shared history among residents.
