Resin Infusion (Closed Mold)

How Resin Infusion Works

Resin Infusion is considered a closed mold process. A vacuum draws resin into a dry fiber laminate in a one-sided mold. A film membrane is placed over the top and sealed around the mold. Resin infusion is an environmentally friendly alternative to open mold spraying.

Resin infusion produces consistent, high quality parts for products like pleasure boats and windmill blades.

Benefits of Using Resin Infusion versus Other Molding Processes

Benefits of using resin infusion as compared to a non-vacuum bag curing of composite laminates include:

  • Better fiber to resin ratio
  • Stronger laminate
  • Low void context
  • Reduces operator exposure to harmful emissions
  • Reduced resin usage due to pre-compacted fabric
  • Faster Ply lay-up
